The Bike Shed — Old Street, London
And now for something completely different. It's not a health or fitness related post, but as I'm taking my motorbike test soon (woohoo!) I thought I'd share with you all my visit to The Bike Shed.
I'm going through a bit of an indecisive patch at the moment when it comes to training. On one hand, my initial reason for starting martial arts was because I wanted to fight in the ring (or cage), but the more I practice kempo and learn about the fundamentals of martial arts, I'm embracing the more technical side and enjoying learning katas and using weapons. This has made me think — would I rather focus on a 'stunt' style method of training?
So here come the bikes. I've always wanted a motorbike — I'm always looking for the next adrenaline rush and I know this would feed my adventurous side. But as well as this, they're beautiful creatures. My friend took me to The Bike Shed as he's a huge fan, and knew I'd love everything about it.
An amazing big space filled with bikes, accessories, clothing and everything else you'd want — I could literally spend all day in there. With a coffee shop, restaurant and barbers what else would you need? On this particular visit, I spent a good hour wandering around and then sat outside in the sun with a beer. The rumble of the bikes turning up every few minutes created an awesome atmosphere, as well as making me super jealous… but oh well.
The people are super friendly which always helps, and I had to force myself to resist buying armfuls of t-shirts, stickers, magazines, keyrings, jewellery… the list goes on. I doubt I'll be as able to resist next time.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in London. One of the coolest places I've been.
